Something Like Love by Sara Richardson

Received and ARC from Net Gallery in return for an honest review.

My first time reading this author thought the beginning went a little slow for my taste. However, there was so much back information given by the author that helped the story along.

The story is about a young woman named Paige who was a change of life baby, the youngest of five children by ten years. Paige’s parents owned and ran The High Altitude Cafe` it was a gathering place where all of her family worked. Since her parents and siblings worked at the Cafe`Grandma Lou stepped up to raise Paige that was until Grandma Lou diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and passed by the disease. Paige had a degree in Kinesiology and was working at the Walker Mountain Ranch owned by Bryce Walker. Paige gave hiking, horseback riding, and white water rafting lessons/tours of the mountains. She was working on a therapy program for Paraplegics that included horseback riding, and white water rafting. Paige spent most of her time at the Ranch she was like a little sister to Bryce. Similar to Paige’s family, Bryce hired family to work his ranch. Avery, Bryce’s pregnant wife, assisted running the ranch, his mother Elise, ran the kitchen, her assistant is Ruby James. Sawyer, Bryce’s cousin full-time police officer, part-time handyman.

Ben Hunter Noble III was Bryce’s college roommate who was running for Republican Texas Senator, just like his father & grandfather. Ben was working on a bill with his sister, Jennifer to give other paraplegics the access to alternative health care. Jennifer, the only survivor of a drunk driving accident, was left paralyzed. Hired by the Democratic Party, Ben’s unscrupulous ex-girlfriend, exposed doctored photos of blatant mistreatments of cattle and the Noble Ranch. Ben now needed to do something to gain back the public’s trust, interest, and votes. His mother Grace wants to donate more money to the zoo. His campaign manager Kevin Mackey wanted to invite the press to a different side of him, the environmentalist. Only one small problem he wasn’t an environmentalist. Ben comes up with donating the family’s property next to Walker Ranch. Time to get in touch with his old college roommate Bryce Walker.

October is an awareness month for breast cancer and domestic abuse. Ruby James may be a victim of domestic abuse. Domestic Abuse is an understated problem worldwide, kudos for authors courageous enough to put it out there for discussion. Not giving away any spoilers, so you need to read the book to find out what happens in this excellent story.Something like love

Christmas Cottage/Ever After by Samantha Chase

Rec’d this from Net Gallery for an honest review:

The Callahan Family is all about tradition, like most families there are folklore, legends, and customs. The Callahan family owns a huge Ranch with a separate one-room cottage set back in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. The tradition since the Depression, the family (immediate and extended) celebrates Christmas every year together on the Ranch; this is also the best time to have a wedding. The legend is the newlyweds spend the first night together in the cottage, and their marriage will last forever. Growing up Ava Callahan listened to her grandmother repeat the folklore of the Christmas Cottage having charm and magic. She was obsessed with her happily ever after.

The original plan was Ava, and Mason were planning on getting married in late summer or fall the following year. Ava wanted the whole charm, magic and everlasting love only the Christmas Cottage could obtain. They upped their Wedding for this Christmas Eve. Lacey Quinn is Ava’s life long best friend and maid of honor. Mason is having his best friend from college, Brian as his best man, except Brian and Mason had a falling out, so now Ean Callahan is going to stand in as best man. Lacey has always crushed on Ean and remembers the most horrible incidence in her life. Ean, age eighteen, just graduated from high school and was leaving for college when Lacey age fourteen, kissed him with a passion that was not expected. Ean never forgot the kiss and in his geekiness hardly ever dated he was busy building his company.

Ava’s concentration was set on the Christmas Cottage so much that she had a binder with 17 divisions on how she expected the Cottage to look. She gave instructions to Lacey telling her it was part of the job being maid of honor, and the best man will be helping her out with the task. Lacey knows there is something up Ava’s typically not demanding or a Bridezilla. With some questions, Ava comes clean regarding her and Mason being on the same page with their future. Ava believes that all of the differences can be taken care of with the magic of the cottage. Lacey suggests postponing the wedding until the following Christmas, but Mason doesn’t want to wait.

Does the cottage have that much charm and magic? Does Ava find her happy ever after? What happens with Lacey? Does Lacey end up with Ean? This story is for people who love HEA. coverChristmascottage

Walk Through Fire, by Kristen Ashley

Walk Through Fire

Rec’d an ARC from Net Gallery for an honest review:

Millicent Ann Cross goes to a high school graduation party meets a biker name, Logan Judd, love at first site. They date for a short time and move in together making plans for their future. They both want the same things, a loving home, lots of family and friends, and children. Millie works hard in school trying to finish college in under four years, and Logan is working for Chaos, a motorcycle club. When Millie reaches her goal graduating from college, she is one to her next goal, having a baby.

Twenty years later waiting in line at Chipotle, she hears a voice that she knows all too well, a man having a phone conversation. She looks up and there he is, Logan (High) Judd. She listens to his conversation; he is picking up his girls keeping them overnight and bringing them to school the next day. OMG, he has children, girls, and must be going through a divorce, he is moving back looking for a house for him and his girls.

Armed with this news, she knows now that she can come clean with him as to why she left him all those years ago. She will give him that as well, put an end to her suffering. Once she comes clean, she will be able to move on and get her life back, start living. Things don’t go quite as planned. High is looking for vengeance for the hurt she caused by breaking his heart and ending their relationship.

Walk Through Fire, is a must read, Kristen Ashley is marvelous in her writing abilities, from one character to next. Love her style of writing conversations between a biker and his old lady, conversations between brothers, and between the sisters who are Chaos, all hell just love her style of writing. If you are familiar with Kristen Ashley’s writing, you will notice some of the same characters from her other MC books. If you aren’t familiar with her books, I suggest you start with the Rock Chick Series, you will not be disappointed.
