Pieces of a Life, part one in an all new duet in the Life series by Jewel E. Ann is now live!
The summer before fourth grade, Colten Mosley moved into the house across the street from mine, and we became inseparable. He played the piano and baseball. I had a penchant for dead things while at the same time imagining what it would be like to kiss Colten. We were filled with curiosity and overly active imaginations. We were also forbidden to be more than friends. But that didn’t stop us. Weeks before graduation, he annihilated my heart, and it’s been seventeen years since the day I knew I’d hate him forever. Now he’s back in my life–a single dad and a homicide detective looking over my shoulder while I perform autopsies as one of Chicago’s most gifted forensic pathologists. Then fate throws us a curveball. Colten saves my life, but he can’t erase the images that now keep me awake at night. And I can’t explain them. Am I still the girl he’s always loved? Or nothing more than pieces of that life?

You can start this duet without reading The Life that Matters/ The Life you Stole, but I highly recommend that you do, just because it’s fabulous. Pieces of a Life is the start of how the Mosley family moves from Texas to the Chicago area. Colton has an older brother Chad, his mom, and his father, a high school coach. They live across the street from Watts’s family. Josephine Watts is an only child but not for long; her mom is pregnant with her brother Benjamin, and her father, Issac, is the chief of police. Issac always wanted a son and has taught his daughter Jo how to fish, hunt, shoot a gun, change a tire, and much more. Jo’s obsessed with dissecting things and very curious about life and death. When Colton and Josphine become friends and more, they spent nine years of their lives together but now, after seventeen years of separation, how will their relationship handle all the changes? I can’t wait to read the rest of this tale! The story is told in the past/present technique, with dual POV, which helps to keep track of the story. Jewel is a very talented, underrated author; how she spins the yarn is never the same in any of her books. The subjects are always entirely different, and this one is more suspenseful with little hits of unexplained phenomena. The duet will be on the top ten best sellers list for 2022.
