Arranged marriage, enemies to lovers, Mafia/cartel romance

As the only daughter of the Kansas City capo, at eighteen years of age, I was given to the son of my father’s consigliere, a man who was expected to accomplish great things for the famiglia. Things didn’t go the way we planned.

There wasn’t love.

My husband was a traitor, taking part in a coup against the famiglia.

My husband is dead.

I’m free.

Until the fateful night my brother, our new capo, informs me that I’ve once again been promised in marriage. He explains that as a childless widow and the daughter of the late capo dei capi, I am desired—requested.

Aléjandro Roríguez is the son of the leader of the Roríguez cartel. My brother married a woman from the cartel, securing the Mafia/cartel alliance. He says that it’s now my turn.

I’ve only met my future husband a few times, but I know without a doubt that I don’t like him. Loving him is impossible. I’ve lived in a marriage without love. I won’t do it again.

Aléjandro lives a dangerous existence.

Death saved me once before.

Maybe it will again.

My Review ****
You can expect an interconnected mafia/cartel story about an arranged marriage. After his father’s death, Dario Luciano recently became Capo after marrying Catalina Ruiz. Business between the mafia and the cartel was uncertain, and the plot thickened when some mafia oldtimers attempted a coup, only to fail in their endeavor.

Dario’s younger sister, Mia Luciano, was given by her father to his consigliere Tommaso Moretti’s son, Rocco, a soldier in her father’s regime. Rocco raped and abused Mia during their marriage, so at the news of his death, she believed that she was free and wouldn’t have to make another sacrifice for the family until Dario received a proposition for Mia’s hand in marriage from the cartel.

Jorge and Josefina Roriguez have two sons, Alejandro and Reinaldo. Once his father Jorge steps down, Alejandro will take over the Roriguez cartel. He is now twenty-seven years old, and it’s time for him to get a wife. Jano was immediately intrigued with Mia when he met her poolside before Catalina’s wedding, and when she slapped his face for making a pass at her while she was married, it only piqued his interest. Alejandro showed up at the wedding with Jasmin Renner on his arm. When the proposition came in that Alejandro wanted to marry Mia, she was in shock and denial; she didn’t like him and couldn’t ever see herself in love with him as Catalina found herself in love with Dario. Is it possible for someone with so much disdain to fall in love?
